Staatsoper Hamburg welcomes Kunde as Mentor and Patron
This past March, Gregory Kunde was appointed Mentor and Patron of the International Opera Studio at Staatsoper Hamburg. Known for his acclaimed career on prestigious opera stages worldwide, he will now lend his expertise and experience to the next generation of opera talent.
Kunde will begin working with young artists this fall, in between his rigorous performance schedule. His passion for teaching and coaching emerging talent was immediately recognized by the Hamburg administration, and Kunde was only too happy to help the company create this new post.
His role will extend beyond the practice room, and he will be available to young singers on a regular basis to discuss repertory, consider various performance opportunities, seek professional representation, and other less-musical, more-business topics of interest. This type of wholistic approach to nurturing and growing young talent aims to prepare young artists more completely, with an eye on every aspect of becoming a successful and centered artist.
Given Kunde’s longevity in the world of music performance, it’s easy to understand how and why this new position with Staatsoper Hamburg will be an enormous and positive development for the company. The tenor hopes to impart the knowledge and savvy he has acquired over the last four decades, with the goal of preparing new talent for the competitive opera world.
